MALVINAS: ARGENTINIEN GEGEN DAS PERFIDE ALBION

Progressive bloc backs Argentina over Falklands

Morning Star 12 02 05

The progressive Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (Alba) backed Argentina on Saturday in its long-running dispute with Britain over the Falkland Islands.

The eight Alba member states - Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Venezuela - approved an agreement barring any boats flying Falkland Islands flags from docking in their ports.
The measure aims to press London to comply with United Nations resolutions urging it to negotiate with Buenos Aires over the islands' sovereignty.
Argentinean Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli said: "Argentina and South America are telling Britain we don't want to militarise the South Atlantic, we don't want to contaminate it, we want the South Atlantic maritime front to be patrolled and protected by the Argentinian navy."
Britain's Royal Navy has dispatched HMS Dauntless, one of its top warships, to the region and is poised to deploy a nuclear submarine to patrol the waters.
