“Een van de belangrijkste staatslieden van de Oostbloklanden is Nicolae Ceaușescu. Op allerlei gebieden van nationale en internationale politiek heeft hij een geheel eigen visie. In het recente verleden heeft die eigen visie ertoe geleid dat hij steeds meer de rol van bemiddelaar te gaan spelen tussen de Oostbloklanden en het Westen in zaken zoals het Nabije Oosten, de relatie Rusland-China en de verhouding tussen Rusland en Amerika. Bovendien is het Ceaușescu die een krachtig pleidooi houdt voor het vormen van een Europees blok als afzonderlijke macht tussen de VS en China. Veel van de recente ontwikkelingen in de verhouding China-VS en Rusland-VS zijn een direct gevolg van Ceaușescu’s bemiddelende activiteit en het is dus niet verwonderlijk dat zijn politieke geschriften in Engeland, Frankrijk en Duitsland vele drukken beleefden.

Nicolae Ceaușescu werd in december 1967 op negenenveertig jarige leeftijd president van de Republiek Roemenië. Hij is in 1918 uit een boerengezin geboren en na langdurige strijd is hij via de beproevingen van de armoede, de leerschool van het werk, de illegaliteit, de gevangenissen van het fascisme en de jaren van strijd op deze post gekomen, waar hij zich vandaag onder de grote staatshoofden onderscheidt.”

Argentina raps British PM over Malvinas

Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner has criticized British Prime Minister David Cameron for what she called Britain's efforts to portray her country as "violent" over the occupied Falkland Islands.

"They are trying to paint us as bad guys, or violent guys and really, that is not who we are," Kirchner said in a speech on Wednesday after about three weeks of medical leave for thyroid surgery.

The criticism came after the British premier described the South American nation's desire to reclaim the islands (known as Las Malvinas in Argentina) as “colonialism.”

“The United Nations Committee on Decolonization has 16 cases open on places that remain colonies, of which 10 are British colonies, and one of the best known is our beloved Malvinas islands," Kirchner stressed.

She said her country would keep using diplomacy to reclaim control over the islands.

“Our armed forces only take part in peacekeeping missions. And that is a political decision of democratic governments since 1983," said the Argentine president.

Tensions between the two counties have escalated since 2010 when London authorized oil prospecting around the islands.

Meanwhile, Argentine protesters marched on the British embassy in Buenos Aires on Friday as the 30th anniversary of the 74-day Argentina-Britain war over Malvinas nears.

Malvinas, located about 250 nautical miles from Argentina, has been occupied by the British for over 180 years. However, Argentina claims sovereignty over the territory as it controlled the islands prior to its colonization by the British.

Lunar New Year Celebrated in China

Beijing, January 23 (KCNA) - Events took place in China to mark the lunar New Year.
The C.C., Communist Party and the State Council of China arranged a gathering to mark the lunar New Year at the Great Hall of the People on Jan. 21.
Present there were Hu Jintao, general secretary of the C.C., CPC and president of China, and senior party and state officials and people from all walks of life in the capital city.
Wen Jiabao, premier of the State Council, in his speech at the gathering said that 2012 is a year of important significance in the course of China's development.
He underlined the need to enhance sustainable economic and social development as well as place more importance on people's livelihoods, letting the people share the achievements of reform.
He called for pushing forward the socialist modernization drive in one mind under the leadership of the Party Central Committee with Hu Jintao as its general secretary and greeting the 18th National Congress of the CPC with excellent achievements.
Prior to it, Hu Jintao and other senior party and state officials paid visits to former leaders to extend New Year greetings.
There were also such festive events as army-people art performance, tea party with officials of different nationalities, round-table talks with non-party personages.

Nadja zegt: Deze wilde bladeren, typisch voor de hele streek, hebben de vorm van rabarber- of tabakbladeren. Ze zijn echter ongenietbaar, dienen hoogstens als noodscherm bij een regenbui☺. Op de plaats waar we gefotografeerd hebben lopen de Zenne en de Vaart parallel.
Deze foto maakt deel uit van mijn ‘Fotoroman over Lembeek’, met dank aan mijn edele allerliefste vriendin Enissa.

Nadja zegt: Een stille, triestige verjaardag. Vandaag staat de blog ‘Happy Days’ van vriendinnetje Stephanie Janssen precies een jaar stil.
Spijtig, want het scheen me een veelbelovende blog te worden.
Ik verheugde me iedere keer haar te ontdekken in een decor met lelijk behangpapier en een ouderwets televisietoestel. En ik heb de hoop niet opgegeven dat ze terug zal posten.

Anniversary of Kim Il Sung's Work Marked

Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) - A meeting took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Jan. 20 to mark the 60th anniversary of the publication of President Kim Il Sung's work "On Making Good Preparations for Universal, Free Medical Care".
The work, published on Jan. 20, 1952, clarifies that the universal free medical care is the most popular policy enforced at state expense and clearly explains its significance and indicates the tasks and ways for making preparations for it.
The President made sure that the universal, free medical system was enforced in all areas of the DPRK from Jan. 1, 1953 and took measures to introduce the complete and universal, free medical system.
He saw to it that the Public Health Law of the DPRK was promulgated in April 1980, providing a legal guarantee for fully granting to the people rights to medical treatment and the promotion of their health and consolidating the socialist public health system.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il worked heart and soul to ensure that the Korean people would benefit from the above-said system, thus making sure that the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital was built and dental and children's hospitals and other specialized ones were constructed in all provinces and cities to raise the level of specialization of healthcare.
The people throughout the country are now provided with all medical services and medicines free of charge by the state and their health and the right to medical treatment are fully guaranteed by the Socialist Constitution and the Public Health Law.
Hospitals and clinics are found not only in the urban and rural areas but in fishermen's and forestry workers' villages and the people are provided with all conditions for healthcare without any inconveniences including the section doctor system.
Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, made a report.
He noted that the past 60 year-long history in which the universal, free medical care has been enforced is the glorious course in which the most popular policies have been enforced, defended and developed thanks to the wise leadership and warm benevolence of the President and Kim Jong Il.
He underlined the need to effect a turn in the health work as required by the era of a great surge and thus fully glorify the advantages of the socialist health system of the DPRK.

Wir wünschen dem rumänischen Volk von ganzem Herzen, daß es mit herausragenden Arbeitsleistungen den 40. Jahrestag des Sieges der antifaschistischen und antiimperialistischen Revolution der sozialen und nationalen Befreiung und dem XIII; Parteitag begeht und künftig in seinem Kampf für die Gestaltung der allseitig entwickelten sozialistischen Gesellschaft und für die kommunistische Zukunft weitere große Erfolg erreicht.
Unter der Führung des Genossen Nicolae Ceaușescu ringen die Rumänische Kommunistische Partei und das rumänische Volk beharrlich darum, die weltweiten Spannungen abzubauen, Streitfragen auf friedlichem Wege zu lösen, volle Gleichheit zwischen Ländern und Nationen zu realisieren und Frieden und Sicherheit in der Welt zu verteidigen. Nadja sagt: Einer der Genossen hat Anstoß genommen an mein voriger Kommentar. Soll er ruhig.
Hätte man damals nur geahnt daß die DDR je einkrachen sollte hätte ich jeden Zettel aufgehoben, von alles Bilder gemacht, und Tagebuch geführt.
Das heutige idyllisches Bild zeigt auch wie wir mal sehr kurz gerockt waren. Und es gab noch kürzere Miniröcke als auf dieses Bild!;-)

Ik word er heel stil van, ook van bewondering voor haar persoonlijkheid.

Nadja zegt: Terug in de tijd met schitterende Vlaamse humor en zelfbespotting! Ik herinner mij, toen ik 27 jaar geleden hier heel nieuw was, deze serie op de beeldbuis opgetogen gevolgd te hebben. Zoals reeds enkele keren vermeld: het medium televisie hebben we al jaren geleden buitengezet en we leven heel gelukkig zonder.
Dit heerlijk boekje lees ik, samen met mijn Enissa, dit weekeinde opnieuw. Ik verheug me al speciaal op het hoofdstuk over Paul Tienpondt. Mijn mollig buikje zal weer schokken en schudden van het lachen ;-D

Occupy activists target US Capitol over legislation

US citizens have massed at the Capitol and congressional office buildings to protest against the growing influence of big capital on their legislature.
Hundreds of Occupy activists defied heavy rain on Tuesday and descended on the Capitol's soaked lawn waving placards reading: "Congress for sale" and "Banksters of America."
Participants said they were optimistic about the strength of the Occupy movement, which began in September when protesters pitched tents in a lower Manhattan park in the heart of the US financial district.
The movement has since spread to dozens of cities, including Washington. While many cities have moved to evict the protesters, the National Park Service has allowed encampments to remain in two public squares near the White House.
"I'm encouraged," said pensioner Jon Wynn of North Carolina.
"There's energy here, even if there's not a whole lot of people."
The protest was mounted a day after the Washington Post published a poll which suggests that a record 84 per cent of US citizens disapprove of the way their legislators are doing their job.
While the rally was mostly peaceful, there were some scuffles between police and protesters along walkways leading to the Capitol.
Four people were arrested - one for allegedly assaulting a police officer and three accused of crossing a police line.
Retired teacher from New Hampshire Anne Filson said that she was disappointed by the turnout and said Occupy protesters needed to stick to their core message of narrowing the gap between rich and poor.
Ms Filson said protesters did not help the cause by carrying profane signs and antagonising police.

Commemorative Book Released

Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- Book "All Kinds of Flowers Came into Bloom under the Care of the Sun" was released with due ceremony in Rason City on Tuesday to commemorate the centenary of birth of President Kim Il Sung.
The book was authored by Ryang Ok Sun, manager of the Yanbian Overseas Chinese Trade Company in Yanji City, Jilin Province, China and director of the Rason Paekhwa Company.
In the book Ryang told about the personality of the great persons of Mt. Paektu, giving exposition of such matters as to what view of life one should take to understand one's nation and to be recognized by it on the basis of her experienced facts.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il took a benevolent step to release this book though he was so busy in the last period of his life.
At the book-releasing ceremony, the author said she keenly felt and experienced the greatness of the peerlessly great persons and indomitable mental power of Kim Jong Il's Korea while staying in the homeland.
She noted the dear respected Kim Jong Un, in bitterer grief than anybody, saw to it that the book-releasing ceremony was held with splendor.
The participants in the ceremony looked round the displayed book.

"Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works" Off Press

Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) - The Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House brought out Vol. 100 of "Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works", a library of the Juche idea which systematically and comprehensively deals with his works in a chronological order.
All 100 volumes of the complete collection have thus been published.
The last volume contains Vol. 6 of President Kim Il Sung's reminiscences "With the Century."
It comprehensively deals with the exploits the President performed by strengthening the Korean People's Revolutionary Army as the revolutionary forces of Juche and consolidating the unity and cohesion of the revolutionary ranks and the mass basis of the armed struggle and with the experience gained in the struggle and his personality as a great man in the period from March 1937 to November.
The book contains "Chapter 16 Crossing and Recrossing the River Amnok" telling the story that the President made an expedition to Fusong for advancing into the homeland and expanded and strengthened organizations of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland in different parts of the homeland.
The book also relates a story about the high spirit displayed by the guards of the command in defending the leader unto death and the struggle waged by anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters to perform the revolutionary duties given by the commander without fail.
Its "Chapter 17 Korea Is Alive" deals with the President's recollection of the fact that he, leading the main force of the KPRA, marched into the homeland and victoriously waged the Battle of Pochonbo. The book relates the story that the President formed a juvenile company and led its members with fatherly loving care.
Its "Chapter 18 in the Flames of the Sino-Japanese War" recounts a story that he energetically led the struggle for all-people resistance preparation to cope with the new situation.

In der HO Gaststätte aß ich dort mal Spinat mit Ei. Zu meiner Überraschung gab es dazu DREI Spiegeleier, während man in Frankfurt (Oder) immer zwei bekam. Es hat mich nie jemand diesen Unterschied innerhalb des selben Bezirkes erklären können….

Vossen behoren tot onze inheemse fauna en vormen een belangrijke schakel in het ecosysteem. Vossen zijn opportunisten en eten wat het gemakkelijkst te vinden of te vangen is. Hiertoe behoort ook het pluimvee dat we in hokken en rennen onderbrengen. Slaagt een vos er in een kippenren binnen te dringen, dan wordt zijn jachtinstinct – door de paniekerige dieren die niet kunnen wegvluchten – zo geprikkeld dat hij meer dieren doodt dan hij kan opeten.

Vandaag de dag wijst men de vos nog vaak als de enige schuldige voor deze slachtpartijen aan; een veel gemaakte fout en niet-doordachte redenering. Een intensievere bejaging of bestrijding is echter geen oplossing. Wanneer sterfte binnen de vossenpopulatie toeneemt (door bijvoorbeeld afschot), neemt ook de voortplanting toe. Meer jongen worden geboren die op hun beurt meer kans hebben om te overleven. Wanneer een vos sterft, komt er een territorium vrij voor een meestal jongere vos. Jonge dieren zijn minder dominant waardoor meer vossen op eenzelfde oppervlakte kunnen leven.

‘De vos heeft het pluimvee gedood dus hij moet wijken’, zijn uitspraken die niet meer van deze tijd zijn. 2010 werd uitgeroepen tot het internationale jaar van de biodiversiteit! Laten we daar in Vlaanderen geen afbreuk aan doen. Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen en Natuurpunt zijn van mening dat de schade die vossen aan pluimvee toebrengen kan voorkomen worden door kippen, eenden, ganzen en andere dieren beter af te schermen. Dit kan eenvoudig door hen ’s avonds onder te brengen in een afgesloten nachthok of door het plaatsen van een vossenvrije ren. Met verontruste gevoelens hopen wij dat de Vlaamse minister voor Leefmilieu, Natuur en Cultuur Joke Schauvliege hun mening deelt en geen extra maatregelen treft tegen de vos.

Wat kan jij doen om de vos in Vlaanderen te beschermen?
• Teken de online petitie op www.sos-vos.be en stuur ze door naar vrienden en familie.
• Vraag de informatiebrochure ‘Slimmer dan de vos’ aan en overtuig anderen dat het extra bejagen en/of bestrijden van vossen geen oplossingen zijn om schade aan pluimvee te voorkomen.
Wat kan jij doen om je pluimvee te beschermen?
• Maak een vossenvrije kippenren. Meer informatie hierover vind je in de brochure ‘Slimmer dan de vos’ of op www.vogelbescherming.be of www.natuurpunt.be/vos.
• Breng kippen, eenden, ganzen en andere dieren ’s avonds onder in een degelijk afgesloten nachthok.

Thousands of German protesters have held anti-capitalism demonstrations across Germany, demanding 'real democracy' in the European country, Press TV reports 12 01 16

Under the slogan “a different world is possible,” up to a thousand people took to the streets of the capital, Berlin, following the eviction of a protest camp by the riot police earlier this week.

“What I find most dangerous is how our society is separating into rich and poor. We have child poverty. We have food banks. Low wages, people who work 40 hours of the week, …there is something going absolutely wrong in this country,” Matthias Merkle, the organizer of the protests said.

In the financial heartland of Frankfurt, some 300 people rallied against the power of banks, while many other 'Occupy' protesters staged similar rallies in Munich, Dusseldorf, Hanover and Hamburg.

“In Germany, things seem to be all great and all work fine and all seem to be really good, but this is not true. It's not true because all things that are good are bad for other people and other places in this world,” a protester opined.

Organizers of the protests in Berlin have vowed to hold further demonstrations, expecting even more support in future as tougher austerity measures loom.

German protesters fear the economic crisis will lead to ever-higher national debt at the expense of the poor.

The Occupy movement enjoys widespread support in Germany, surveys indicate. Germany's major cities have seen similar protests over the past months.

Police attack injures 20 at Romanian rally

Riot police attacked a mass demonstration in Bucharest on Saturday against plans to privatise emergency health services, wounding more than 20 people and arresting around 40.
Protesters had massed in central Universitate Square, calling for early elections and shouting: "Down with Basescu" - referring to President Traian Basescu - "Stop thievery" and "You lied to us and robbed us," while others blew whistles and jeered.
Some waved the Romanian national tricolour with the centre ripped out, a symbol of the uprising that overthrew the socialist regime in 1989.
When protesters blocked traffic, riot police waded in with batons and tear gas. Some protesters responded by hurling stones at officers, at least one of whom suffered a serious head injury.
A total of five police were treated for injuries. Some 20 protesters were wounded, including 16 who required hospital treatment. Several of the injured were elderly people.
Protests kicked off on Wednesday after the resignation of Deputy Health Minister Raed Arafat, a Palestinian with Romanian citizenship.

Tunisians mark first anniversary of revolution

On 14 January 2011, thousands of Tunisians took to the streets of the Capital shouting “get out” to Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali and his inner circle. One year after the dictator was overthrown and fled to Saudi Arabia, people are back to the same place but for different reasons. Tunisians are in fact celebrating their freedom in a festive atmosphere.

Some people explained that the Revolution is not over yet and called for unity in the political scene.

Rafik, a citizen from Sidi Bouzid, the birthplace of the revolution celebrated the anniversary of the memorable day of the 14th of January in the Capital. He conveyed a personal message to Ben Ali.

Ahmad, a University Teacher, expressed optimism about the future of Tunisia. He also hoped that the whole world will be free from dictatorship and oppression.

Since the revolution, elections have been held and a new interim government is in place now. People now hope the economic situation improves soon.

Thousands of Tunisian people are celebrating the first anniversary of the Revolution in different parts of the country but being in front of the Interior Ministry is very symbolic because this is where the word “get out” was used for the first time in history and it has since then become a universal message to be used to denounce injustice and to get rid of dictators.

Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands Declares Commotion about Headscarf "Real Nonsense"

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has dismissed as "real nonsense" a domestic political row over her wearing of a headscarf while on a trip to the Gulf. The 73-year-old Dutch queen made her unusually forthright comment to Dutch reporters who were covering her state visit to the Middle East.

She was reacting to questions in parliament tabled by Geert Wilders's Freedom Party (PVV) which claimed she "legitimises the oppression of women".

Queen Beatrix wore a gown and headscarf first on Sunday at a mosque in Abu Dhabi and again on Thursday in Oman.

Her officials said she had acted out of respect for Islamic tradition.

During Thursday's visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in the Omani capital, Muscat, the queen wore a red shawl over her hat while Princess Maxima who was accompanying her also had her head covered.

Dutch TV said that by also wearing gloves, the queen had covered herself even more than in Abu Dhabi.

The Freedom Party, an anti-Islam party that props up the Dutch minority government without being part of the coalition, described her wearing of a headscarf on Sunday as a "sad spectacle".

Wilders rose to prominence amid a wave of anti-Islam sentiment that swept over the Netherlands in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks in the United States and the murder by a Muslim radical of Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh in Amsterdam in 2004.

His Freedom Party is now one of the country's largest political groups and he is a vital supporter of Rutte's minority ruling coalition. While Wilders is not a member of the government, his party has agreed to support Rutte's administration on key votes in exchange for pledges on policies such as a crack down on immigration.

Nevertheless, jn a written parliamentary answer, Prime Minister Mark Rutte decisively refuted Wilders' criticism of the queen, explaining that when "Her Majesty visits a house of worship, the dress requirements are respected".

Reporters with the royal party in Muscat on Thursday described the queen as heaving a deep sigh, while saying she was not surprised by the row.

Princess Maxima also spoke out, according to Dutch media, pointing out that two-thirds of students in Abu Dhabi were women.

Although the queen regularly speaks to the Dutch press at the end of a royal tour, her frank remarks about a domestic political party are being seen as unprecedented.

The Dutch Labour party responded by suggesting that the monarch's remarks were a slip of the tongue. MP Jeroen Recourt said the comments were politically sensitive and awkward.

The memorial service for supreme leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Il held in the DPRK this time offered one an opportunity to know well that he is the most influential man of the socialist country along with President Kim Il Sung.
The memorial service was closely linked with the fascinating personality of the leader.
How does the DPRK have such strong unity?
Firstly, the DPRK is a socialist state.
The Korean and the world people revere the leader who loves his country like his own house and like his own family. This is the first reason why the DPRK has such strong unity.

Era of Capitalist order ends: Iran

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the era of a global capitalist order has terminated, insisting that the capitalist powers' logic is merely based on bullying, weapons and threats.

“The implementation of justice will serve as the basis for establishing peace, tranquility, progress and brotherhood,” said President Ahmadinejad in a joint press conference with his Venezuelan counterpart President Hugo Chavez in Caracas on Tuesday.

“The future [world] order must be a clean order,” he noted, adding that the next global order must guarantee the placement of pure souls at the peak of power.

He also emphasized the importance of promoting freedom, justice and independence, arguing that “justice and freedom are intertwined.”

The Iranian chief executive added that Tehran and Caracas call for justice, freedom, progress and welfare for all nations.

The Iranian and Venezuelan nations have always resisted against the extremism of arrogant powers, he emphasized.

Whenever we speak about our country's progress and development, arrogant powers claim that we are making bombs, President Ahmadinejad stated.

“Hegemonic powers view our progress as detrimental to their own interests. They seek to plunder our assets and impose their will on us,” he pointed out, adding that, however, the nations of the world are vigilant and conscious and consider such attitudes as ludicrous.

The Iranian president reiterated that the arrogant powers should recognize the fact that Iran and Venezuela are bound to promote mutual cooperation to achieve their objectives.

Independent and justice-seeking nations will always support each other and nothing could separate the Iranian and Venezuelan people, the Iranian president further said.

President Ahmadinejad arrived in Caracas on the first leg of his five-day tour of several Latin American countries. He is also scheduled to pay a visit to Nicaragua, Cuba and Ecuador and hold talks with senior officials of the countries to further expand relations.

Leaders in all the four Latin American countries have in recent years built up diplomatic and trade ties with Iran, while their relations with the US have been greatly reduced amid popular demands for an end to dependence on Washington.

Poster Exhibition Opens

Pyongyang, January 6 (KCNA) - A poster exhibition was opened with due ceremony at the Pyongyang International Cultural House on Friday to implement the decision of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the joint calls of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the WPK and the militant tasks set forth in the joint New Year editorial.
Displayed in the venue of the exhibition are more than 80 posters presented by the Mansudae Art Studio, the Korean Central Fine Arts Studio, the Fine Arts Studio of the Ministry of Railways and the Pyongyang University of Fine Arts.
The posters "The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il will always be with us" and "Glorify this year 2012 as a year of proud victory, a year when an era of prosperity is unfolding, true to the instructions of the great General Kim Jong Il"! reflected the faith and will of all the service personnel and the people to hold him in high esteem for all ages and glorify his revolutionary life and feats forever.
Posters "Let us devotedly defend the Party Central Committee headed by the dear respected Comrade Kim Jong Un!", "Let us successfully carry forward and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche started in Mt. Paektu generation after generation!" and others deal with the determination of all service personnel and people to dynamically advance toward the new victory of the Juche revolution under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, the supreme leader of the WPK and the people.
Posters depicted the tasks facing various sectors of the national economy to be carried out this year in response to the WPK's grand strategy for prosperity.
Among them are posters of diverse themes.

Hamas Prime Minister visits Tunisia

On the occasion of the anniversary of the Israeli war against Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas Prime Minister of the blockaded Gaza strip started his first visit to Tunisia.

Welcomed as a hero and warmly greeted by the Government, Ennahda members, and the people, Haniyeh expressed his full support for Tunisia because despite all the challenges Tunisian people are facing, “they are still standing for the Palestinian cause,” he said.
Ismail Haniyeh addressed the masses in a historical speech defying Israex and denouncing the occupation of Palestine.
Thousands of Tunisian people chanted slogans calling for the liberation of Palestine, the non-recognition of Israex and Tunisia's commitment to the Palestinian cause.
At the end of his speech, Haniyeh announced that he will never recognize Israex and that injustice targeting Palestinians will only lead in determination to liberate Gaza and Palestine. He left the meeting confident that Palestine, Gaza, and Hamas will have more support and that Western tyrants will be defeated.
Ismail Haniyeh's visit to Tunisia is in support of the causes of Tunisians and Palestinians but it's also a coded message to Israex that tyranny will end soon in Palestine.

ESKIMO is het Algonquin-woord voor “rauwvlees-eter”; zelf noemen zijn zich “innuit”, mensen.
En duizenden jaren waren zij de enige mensen in de streek binnen de poolcirkel van de Amerikaanse noordkust, van Groenland tot zuidelijk Alaska. Hoe belangrijk dat alles ook geweest is om de vondsten aan mineralen, om de strategische mogelijkheden, om de winsten die generaties van handelaren uit robbenpelzen haalden, de Eskimo’s betaalden deze “vooruitgang” met hun cultuur, tenslotte met hun leven. 141,6 miljoen dollar brachten Alaska’s pelzen tussen 1867 en 1938 op. Maar de onderzoeker Knud Rasmussen vond daarvoor ook tal van verlaten ruïnes, honderden vervallen nederzettingen. En toen de pelsrobben – die zich van de andere zeehonden onderscheiden, doordat zij onder de lange haren van un huid nog een dichte, dunharige pels hebben, die na uittrekken van de buitenste haren “sealskin” geeft – niet meer voldoende waren, verwerkte men ook nog andere soorten. Tenslotte vonden de dieren op de Koerillen al even weinig rust als in de Bering Zee en op de Vuurland-eilanden; en vooral in New Foundland werden zij in steeds grote hoeveelheden omgebracht…”

Ambassador demands Libya probe into human rights

Incoming UN security council president Baso Sangqu called on Wednesday for an investigation into human rights abuses committed during Nato's bombing campaign on Libya.
Mr Sangqu, the UN ambassador for South Africa which holds the council's rotating presidency this month, said he believed the Western military alliance had overstepped its mandate in enforcing a so-called no-fly zone, killing an untold number of innocent civilians.
"We were alive to the fact that the implementation of the resolution itself would have its own problems, but we now hear strong voices that talk about many mistakes that were made," Mr Sangqu said.
"They were supposed to be precision strikes, but it was clear that those were not that precise."
Mr Sangqu said UN human rights officials are currently conducting investigations on the ground.
But he insisted that it must not only be Gadaffi supporters that are investigated but also human rights abuses "by the rebels, by Nato, anybody who was involved in that conflict."
Mr Sangqu, speaking in his capacity as South Africa's UN representative, said he believed the security council resolution that his country supported had authorised a no-fly zone but did not mean "regime change or anything else."
Russia has also called for an independent UN investigation of civilian casualties.
Nato spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said: "We took every precaution to minimise the risk to civilians.
"We repeatedly warned civilians to stay away from military installations and equipment"

Guidelines for Socialist Construction

Pyongyang, January 4 (KCNA) - Leader Kim Jong Il published a famous work "The Historical Lesson in Building Socialism and the General Line of Our Party" in January Juche 81 (1992.)

In the work, the leader gave a scientific explanation of the main reason for the collapse of socialism in some countries and indicated ways for successful socialist construction.
He also expounded ideas and theories on building up the driving force of revolution, holding fast to the revolutionary principles and maintaining independence. He said it is the general line of socialist construction to vigorously carry on the ideological, technical and cultural revolutions and strengthen the people's power.
Kim Jong Il performed great exploits in the effort to accomplish the cause of the popular masses' independence.
He made it clear that the cause of the popular masses' independence can be advanced and won by the core and principal role of the revolutionary army.
He put forward the Songun (military-first) revolutionary line based on the unique theory that the army precisely means the party, state and people, making it possible for the army and the people to successfully advance the socialist cause based on the scientific and revolutionary idea.
He created a new history of strengthening the driving force of revolution with the army as the mainstay.
It is the truth acquired by him that the most revolutionary and powerful force is the army in the present society and that when the army and people achieve unity in ideology and working spirit, their strength will be increased considerably.
The DPRK has achieved single-minded unity around the headquarters of revolution on the basis of the Songun idea, fully demonstrating the great political and ideological might of the country and making tremendous achievements in the building of a thriving nation.
All the Korean people are determined to defend the feats the leader performed for the cause of the popular masses' independence and socialism and glorify a new century of the Juche era as one of prosperity under the leadership of the dear respected Kim Jong Un.

WINTERSTERRENHEMEL

De hemel is het helderst in koude winternachten. Dan ook kunnen de zwakkere sterren in groter aantal worden waargenomen. De zorgvuldige waarnemer kan dan ook de zwakkere sterren en nevels opzoeken. De wintersterrenbeelden bevatten de helderste en gemakkelijkst herkenbare beelden. Acht sterren van 1e magnitude zijn zichtbaar ’s avonds in januari en dat aantal loopt op tot elf in de vroege lente.
De waarnemer van zwakke sterren moet zich aanpassen aan de duisternis. U zult 5 à 10 minuten nodig hebben na het waarnemen van een heldere ster, alvorens U weer een zwakkere zult onderscheiden. Gebruik eerst uw sterrenkaart en doe nadien uw waarneming. Gebruikt U een zaklamp, overtrekt ze let rood cellofaanpapier of doodgewoon met een dun stukje papier, zodat ze minder licht geeft. Een andere raadgeving, die U kunt volgen bij het waarnemen van zwakkere sterren, is onze blik te richten op een punt, even naast de ster. Ons oog is namelijk buiten het centrum van het gezichtsveld gevoeliger dan daar in.
De wintersterrenbeelden zijn gekarakteriseerd door Orion, de Jager, die volgens de Griekse mythologie beweerde dat geen enkel dier hem kon overwinnen. Jupiter stuurde de Schorpioen op hem af; deze beet hem in de hiel en doodde hem. Toen Orion in de hemel werd geplaatst, met zijn twee jachthonden en de door hem gejaagde haas toen werd de Schorpioen, die hem beet, eveneens als sterrenbeeld vereeuwigd doch aan de overkant van de hemel geplaatst.
De winterse hemel bevat nog Taurus (Stier) en de Pleiaden (Zevengesternte).
Gebruik Orion, zo helder en gemakkelijk vindbaar, als sleutel tijdens de winternachten. De “gordel van Orion” kan in beide richtingen als richtingswijzer worden gebruikt. Naar het noordwesten wijst hij naar Aldebaran in Taurus, de Stier en naar de Pleiaden.
In de andere richting wijst hij naar Sirius van Canis Major (Grote Hond). Sirius, Procyon (Kleine Hond) en Betelgeuze in Orion vormen een driehoek met zijden van 25 graden. Ten zuiden van Orion ligt Lepus, de Haas. En nog 15 graden zuidelijker ligt Columba, de Duif.
Een lijn vanaf Rigel naar Betelgeuze loopt in de richting van Gemini, de Tweelingen.
Sterrennamen zoals Betelgeuze, Aldebaran en Rigel in de wintersterrenhemel zijn werkelijke Arabische sterrenkundige bijdragen van de 8e tot de 12e eeuw. De Grieken, de Romeinen en hun West-Europese afstammelingen gaven namen aan de sterrenbeelden in aansluiting met de Griekse en Romeinse mythologie. Sommige sterren kregen ook Latijnse namen. De meeste gedachten, ontwikkeld door vroegere astronomen, werden verworpen daar ze onjuist bleken. Maar de namen van de sterren of sterrenbeelden bleven meestal gedurende eeuwen onveranderd en worden nu nog net als vroeger gebezigd.
Daar de winternachten lang en soms helder zijn, worden ze ook benut voor het fotograferen van sterren en planeten. Sterrensporen en foto’s, die U de beweging van de maan of van andere planeten aantonen, kunnen verwezenlijkt worden door middel van een doodgewone camera. Voor het fotograferen van vele hemellichamen is een poolas, een motor met uurdrijfwerk nodig, opdat de camera de ster of planeet in werkelijkheid zou kunnen volgen.

Chinese President Hu Jintao has warned against efforts by the Western countries to “westernize and divide” China through “cultural warfare.”

"Hostile international powers are strengthening their efforts to westernize and divide us," Hu said in an article published on the latest edition of the ruling Communist Party's magazine on Monday.

President Hu urged China's Communist Party to meet the "growing spiritual and cultural demands of the people" in a bid to fight the "hostile international powers."

"We must be aware of the seriousness and complexity of the struggles and take powerful measures to prevent and deal with them," the Chinese leader warned.

He also accused the West of using its international culture to target China's "ideological and cultural fields.”

Hu's warning comes as Western cultural events such as the Valentine's Day are growing in popularity among the Chinese.

In an effort to counter the Western media propaganda, China has allocated a 45-billion-yuan (£4 billion) budget to expand its overseas media, including the US and UK edition of the state-run China Daily, the state news agency Xinhua and China Central Television's (CCTV).

My name is Leilah Ahmad.
My parents have two kids; my brother and I.
My mom is Australian, and my father is a Pakistani. So it’s a bit of a mix there.
I wasn’t growing up in a religious background. My parents let me choose. So in a sense I had the chance to understand Islam truly for myself. I didn’t have anyone push me to anything.

My life didn’t change in a major way. I’m still the same person. I’m still a human being just as everyone else. I eat as everyone else. But my life has become more pure, and everything makes more sense. I stay away from the haram and I keep to the halal. That’s the main way, and to offer this to other people, it makes a great difference.
Islam has a lot to offer really. To me, Islam offered me peace, prosperity, truth, love, cleanliness and a way of life.
To me Islam is a way of life. That’s the bottom line, a way of life.

The recipe came from the cookbook that came with the Kitchen Aid - some good stuff in there!

500g mashed potatoes
500g strong white flour
4 tbsp olive oil
7g dry yeast
2 eggs
1 tsp salt

Mix into a smooth dough, divide in 2 and shape into 2x 20cm greased cake tins. Lightly cover and rest for 3 hours. Brush with olive oil and top with cherry tomatoes (halved or quartered), sprinkle with salt, chopped oregano and/or thyme. Bake at 180 for 30 mins. Voila!

In welchem Zusammenhang, bei welcher Gelegenheit und vor allem in welcher Absicht Henry Ford diesen provokanten Satz von sich gab, weiß ich nicht und es interessiert mich auch ehrlich gesagt überhaupt nicht. Wichtig ist nur, dass diese und ähnliche Aussagen mich hellhörig machten und ich anfing mich mit der Geschichte des Geldes zu beschäftigen.

Die Politiker wissen übrigens ganz genau, dass es nicht um Schuldentilgung geht, sondern darum, die Zinsen und Zinseszinsen für die Schulden dem Volk durch Steuern abzupressen. Da die meisten Menschen glauben, dass Staatsschulden und Privatschulden dasselbe sind, und somit auf dieselbe Weise zu händeln sind wie ihre eigenen Schulden, ist es auch nicht sonderlich schwer, dem Volk das Märchen mit dem Schuldenabbau aufzutischen. Wer das nicht mehr will und die Nase davon voll hat für dumm verkauft zu werden, muss sich zwangsläufig mit dem Finanzsystem auseinandersetzen, wenn er den Durchblick haben will.

Die Welt der Finanzen ist auch gar nicht so kompliziert, wie man uns immer weiß machen will. Das Erkennen der Zusammenhänge könnte jedoch durch den Umstand, dass das eigene Weltbild zusammenbricht und neu geordnet werden muss, massiv erschwert werden. Und genau darauf setzen die Verteidiger des bestehenden Systems. Sie schüren unsere Ängste um uns vom selber denken und selber handeln abzuhalten. Dagegen sollten wir uns wehren und ihnen einen Strich durch ihre Rechnung machen.

Chairman of Iran-Tunisia Friendship Parliamentary Group, Hassan Kamran congratulated the Tunisians on their victory and said that the wave of the Islamic awakening began from Tunisia which ushered in a new era in the region.

He also said that global powers which are afraid of these developments are seeking to regain their dominance over the region through modern methods.

Vuilgebekt kinderkoor zingt in Gents winkelcentrum (video)

De Opvoedingslijn laat na het succes van kleine Robin vorig jaar weer van zich horen.
Deze keer waren nu de shoppers in een Gents winkelcentrum aan de beurt.
Enkele dagen voor Kerstmis trakteerde een kinderkoor de voorbijgangers op hemelse kerstliederen.
Wie echter goed luisterde, merkte al gauw dat de knaapjes en meisjes allesbehalve vredige kerstboodschappen zongen. "Stille nacht, jointje gepaft. Pintje of zes, en een fles", zo begon het nummer.

Pyongyang, December 27 (KCNA) - Juche idea study organizations in various countries and regions sent wreaths to express deep condolences on the demise of leader Kim Jong Il.
They included the International Alliance of Societies for the Study of the Juche Idea and Songun Policy in East European and Central Asian Regions, the Russian Association for the Study of the Juche Idea, the Hannover Group for the Study of the Juche Idea in Germany and the Nigerian National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea.
The wreaths were laid before the portrait of smiling Kim Jong Il at Kim Il Sung Square on Tuesday.
Also placed there was a wreath from the Federal Republic of Germany-DPRK Association.

Papers Call for Glorifying Kim Jong Il's Feats for Building Socialist Power

Pyongyang, December 27 (KCNA) - Papers of the DPRK Tuesday, in editorials dedicated to its Socialist Constitution Day, call on all the people to eternally glorify the feats performed by leader Kim Jong Il in building a socialist power.

President Kim Il Sung enacted the Socialist Constitution on Dec. 27, Juche 61 (1972).
This provided a legal guarantee for steadily consolidating and developing Korean-style socialism and helped the Korean people dynamically advance the revolution and construction with the powerful weapon for prosperity of the Republic, Rodong Sinmun says, adding:

Kim Jong Il called the Socialist Constitution Kim Il Sung Constitution and made sure that the constitution specified Kim Il Sung as the eternal President of the DPRK. And he had energetically led the work to advance the revolution and construction only in keeping with the idea and intention of the President.
Under his leadership the revolutionary character of Korean-style socialism was reliably defended despite the severe ordeal and trials and the stirring reality was brought in which the ideals of the people are translated into practice.
Kim Jong Il formulated the Songun politics as the powerful political method under socialism and established the Korean-style state machinery with the National Defence Commission as its backbone. Through their practical experience, the Korean army and people have keenly felt how just such steps were.
Now standing in the van of the Songun revolution is the dear respected Kim Jong Un who is identical to Kim Jong Il, the paper says, calling on all the people to accelerate the general onward march for prosperity of the country, closely rallied around him.
Minju Joson says that the socialist government of the DPRK will faithfully uphold the leadership of Kim Jong Un and defend and glorify forever Korean-style socialism, the biggest legacy based on patriotism of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) - South Korean mourners' groups led by Ri Hui Ho, widow of former President Kim Dae Jung, and Hyon Jong Un, chairwoman of the Hyundai Group, Monday arrived here via Kaesong on the demise of leader Kim Jong Il.

S. Korean Mourners' Groups Visit Bier of Kim Jong Il

Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) - Ri Hui Ho, widow of former south Korean President Kim Dae Jung, and her party and Hyon Jong Un, chairwoman of Hyundai Group, and her party Monday paid respects to the bier of leader Kim Jong Il.
Seen beside the bier was a wreath sent by Kim Jong Un, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Kim Jong Un was standing vigil by the side of the bier together with members of the National Funeral Committee.
Amid the playing of solemn music, wreaths were laid in the name of Ri Hui Ho, managing director of the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center, and Hyon Jong Un, chairwoman of Hyundai Group.
They paid silent tribute to the bier of Kim Jong Il and viewed it.
They expressed deep condolences and sympathy to Kim Jong Un.
He expressed thanks for them.
They made entries in mourners' book.
Ri Hui Ho wrote that Chairman of the National Defence Commission Kim Jong Il passed away but she hopes the spirit of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration would be carried forward to achieve national reunification as early as possible.
Hyon Jong Un wrote that the chairman of the National Defence Commission who made efforts for national reconciliation and cooperation would be always remembered by them.

Condolatory Messages from S. Korean Organization

Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) - The All-People Council for National Reconciliation and Cooperation in south Korea on Dec. 20 sent a condolatory message to the National Reunification Council of the DPRK over the demise of leader Kim Jong Il.
We express our deep condolences on the demise of Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission, and extend our sympathy to all the compatriots in grief in the north, the message said.
We will closely cooperate and solidarize with you on the road for reconciliation and cooperation between the south and the north and their common prosperity in the future, too, according to the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, it added.

Palestinian Students Protested against Map of Palestine Published by Qatar at Arab Games

Dozens of students affiliated with the Islamic Jihad movement demonstrated in Gaza on Saturday against the way organizers of the Pan Arab games in Qatar depicted a map of Palestine.

In the opening ceremony of the event some weeks ago, the West Bank and Gaza Strip were highlighted in yellow on a large-scale projection of the map of Palestine.

Protesters slammed the Qatari decision to illustrate the borders of Palestine in such a way, carrying signs which depicted maps of historic, or mandate, Palestine.

"Sorry Qatar, these are the borders of our Palestine, and historic Palestine is a red line,” some of the signs read.

"Qatar chose to go in line with the Israeli plans when the map was highlighted,” Islamic Union member Arafat Abu Zayid said.

Palestine stretches from the Jordan river to the Mediterranean sea and belongs to the Palestinian people, he added, noting that it is not possible to give up one inch of land.

He urged the Palestinian Authority to sever relations with Qatar.

The Pan Arab games finished on Dec. 23 and involved 21 countries after Syria withdrew its team.
